Jessica Starr

Executive director, calm mind foundation & founder, Sage Yoga Co.

Jessica’s journey with yoga began more than twenty years ago when a serious car accident left her a bit unmoored from her body. Yoga brought her back in touch physically and mentally, inspiring her to explore her practice in more depth and to bring yoga to others as a teacher, and eventually, as the owner of Sage Yoga, now a hub for community and practice in Covington. Jessica’s desire to bring yoga to community members beyond the typical yoga student led to the founding of Calm Mind.

Before founding Sage Yoga Co. and Calm Mind Foundation, Jessica was the Director of Human Resources for Catholic Charity of Southwestern Ohio. She has been active in both the non-profit and yoga worlds for years, and is honored to help bring the practices of yoga and meditation to vulnerable community members through relationships with Welcome House, Brighton Center, Ninth District School, and other community partners.

Calm Mind allows me to combine my passion for yoga with my passion for helping others on their journey. Assisting the community with overcoming adversity and holding space to allow them to process is a huge privilege.

Imagine removing the financial, mental, and physical barriers of practicing yoga and meditation for those in our community. This is what’s happening at Calm Mind, folks. Sharing these powerful practices feels like our concern, and we know it works. I’m inspired to be a part of this work.

William Blake said "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite.” Calm Mind Foundation gives people experiencing trauma, poverty, addiction or even the ordinary challenges of being a teenager tools to cleanse those doors for themselves and use that new clarity to take charge of their own lives. I’m going through Yoga Teacher Training at Sage Yoga now so I can help facilitate that mission.

Calm Mind Foundation is focused on building sustainable community programs wherever they are needed. By bringing not just yoga and meditation to those we serve, but mindfulness, empathy, and self-awareness as well, we are making a positive lasting impact. Calm Mind is making the world a more peaceful place, one mind at a time.

I've worked in the corporate world for 20 years and I've been involved with Sage Yoga since its beginnings, and I can attest to the positive impact that a yoga practice can have on your mental and physical health. I'm excited for the Foundation to bring programs to people who may not usually have access to yoga; with this work, more and more people in our community can benefit from these practices.
